Saanich East BC is dominated by the University of Victoria, which is very much a part of the local life of the community. Saanich is sub-divided into 19 neighbourhoods. The municipality contains a wide variety of rural and urban landscapes and neighbourhoods and is unique because of its ecological diversity and leisure potential. Saanich is an area that is made up of several different communities which makes it extremely diverse when it comes to the people that inhabit this lovely area.
When it comes to education, you’ll find that the University of Victoria is only a short distance away. This is the third largest university in British Columbia and the western portion of the campus rests right alongside the borders of Saanich, BC. So, if higher education is on the menu, you’ll discover that all of your needs will be provided for within this lovely area. There is also the campuses of Camosun College; the Lansdowne campus and the Interurban campus. In addition, you’ll have access to school district 61 and/or 63 for all your public school requirements when it comes to your younger students that need their education.
There are 170 municipal parks, three regional parks and a cycling network route.
Some of the popular parks include: Mount Tolmie Park (with viewpoints), and Gyro Park (great for kids), Mount Douglas Park (with vast hiking trails to the top). Also there is Swan Lake/Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary and Elk and Beaver Lake Regional Park (popular for swimming, horseback, motorboats, kayacking, hiking etc)
